Portugal's First Podium

Tiago Monteiro raced in Formula One in 2005 and 2006 and became the first Portuguese driver to finish on the podium.

Born in Porto, Tiago Monteiro was twice runner up in French Formula Three and second in the World Series by Nissan before Jordan signed him for 2005. He made his debut at the Australian Grand Prix, and at the United States Grand Prix, contested by only six cars, he finished third, the first podium for a Portuguese driver.

He stayed with the team as it became Midland and then Spyker in 2006, with ninth in Hungary as his best result that year. He left Formula One after the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix with 37 starts and one podium. He then moved to touring cars, winning races in the World Touring Car Championship with SEAT and Honda.
