Second at Monaco, Winner at Le Mans

Richard Attwood started 17 Grands Prix between 1965 and 1969, finishing second at Monaco in 1968, and won Le Mans for Porsche in 1970.

Born in Wolverhampton, Richard Attwood began racing in 1960 after an apprenticeship at Jaguar and won in Formula Two with the Midlands Racing Partnership. His first World Championship entry came with BRM at the 1964 British Grand Prix, though he did not start, and in 1965 he scored sixth places in Italy and Mexico in a Lotus BRM.

Called up by BRM in 1968, he finished second at the Monaco Grand Prix and set the fastest lap. In 1969 he took fourth at Monaco in a Lotus and sixth in Germany in a Brabham, his last Grand Prix and 17th start. In 1970 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Porsche 917, the first of Porsche's overall wins there.
