Portugal's First Formula One Point

Pedro Lamy raced in Formula One from 1993 to 1996 and became the first Portuguese driver to score a championship point.

Born in Alenquer, Pedro Lamy won the Portuguese Formula Ford title at 17 in 1989 and the German Formula Three Championship in 1992. Lotus brought him in for the last four races of 1993, beginning at the Italian Grand Prix, and he made four more starts for the team in 1994.

He joined Minardi partway through 1995, and at the Australian Grand Prix that year he finished sixth, the first championship point for a Portuguese driver. A full season with Minardi followed in 1996, ending at the Japanese Grand Prix with 32 starts. He later won GT class titles and raced for Mercedes in the DTM and at Le Mans.
