Argentina Returns to the Grid

Franco Colapinto became the first Argentine Formula One driver since 2001 when he debuted for Williams in 2024, and now races for Alpine.

Born in Pilar, Franco Colapinto won the Spanish F4 Championship in 2019 and moved through sports cars, Formula 3 and Formula 2. Williams called him up to replace Logan Sargeant from the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, making him the first Argentine in Formula One since 2001, and he scored points with eighth in Azerbaijan.

He joined Alpine as a reserve for 2025 and was promoted to a race seat after six rounds. In 2026, with Mercedes power, he has scored points regularly, including sixth at the Canadian Grand Prix, his best result so far. Through the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix he has made 41 starts.
