Second in Argentina for Ferrari

Cliff Allison raced in Formula One from 1958 to 1961 for Lotus, Maserati and Ferrari, finishing second at the 1960 Argentine Grand Prix.

Born in Brough, Cliff Allison started in a Formula Three Cooper in 1953 and was spotted by Colin Chapman. He made his World Championship debut for Lotus at the 1958 Monaco Grand Prix, finishing sixth, and added fourth in Belgium and sixth in the Netherlands that season.

Ferrari signed him for 1959, and he took fifth at the Italian Grand Prix. At the 1960 Argentine Grand Prix he finished second, the best result of his career. His final appearances came with a Lotus in 1961, and his last start was the Belgian Grand Prix that year, his 16th. He died in 2005.
