Le Mans Winner Who Made Way for Schumacher

Bertrand Gachot raced in Formula One between 1989 and 1995, scored points for Jordan in 1991 and won Le Mans that same year.

Born in Luxembourg, Bertrand Gachot won titles in Formula Ford before progressing through Formula 3 and Formula 3000, and made his Formula One debut with Onyx at the 1989 Brazilian Grand Prix. A season with Coloni in 1990 brought no starts at all.

Jordan signed him for 1991, and he scored points in Canada, Britain and Germany and set the fastest lap in Hungary. He also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Mazda that year, but a prison sentence soon afterwards ended his time at Jordan, and Michael Schumacher made his debut in the seat. Gachot returned in 1992 in a Venturi Lamborghini, scoring the team's only point of the year at Monaco, and ended his career with Pacific at the 1995 Australian Grand Prix, after 47 starts from 73 entries.

0 world titles, 0 wins, 0 pole positions, 47 starts.
