Team Gunston and the Sponsor Livery

John Love's Southern African privateer team is remembered as the first in Formula One to race in a sponsor's colors.

Team Gunston was founded by the Rhodesian driver John Love to enter his own cars in Formula One and sports car racing from 1962 to 1975. Love often drove the cars himself, sometimes under his own name, but he also provided them to other drivers, including Sam Tingle, Ian Scheckter and Eddie Keizan, mostly at the South African Grand Prix.

Its place in history came at the 1968 South African Grand Prix, when the team entered a private Brabham painted in the brand colors of its sponsor, the first time a Formula One team had done so. The team's appearances continued at its home race until the 1975 South African Grand Prix, its final entry.
