Scuderia Ambrosiana

Milan's Blue and Black Stable

Founded by four Italian drivers before the war, Scuderia Ambrosiana made occasional World Championship appearances in the early 1950s.

Scuderia Ambrosiana was a Milan team founded by drivers Giovanni Lurani, Luigi Villoresi, Franco Cortese and Eugenio Minetti. It took its name from Saint Ambrose, the city's patron saint, and painted its cars blue and black after the colors of the Inter football club, then known as Ambrosiana Inter. Before the World Championship existed it raced at the Targa Florio, and a young Alberto Ascari drove for it.

In the World Championship the team appeared only now and then between 1950 and 1954. Its best result came in its very first race, when David Hampshire finished ninth in a Maserati at the 1950 British Grand Prix. David Murray also drove for it, and its final entry was the 1954 British Grand Prix, where Reg Parnell retired his Ferrari.
