Emeryson

British racing car manufacturer

Paul Emery's Family of Specials

Emeryson grew from a family of special builders, raced in the World Championship in 1956 and again in the early 1960s, then became Scirocco.

Emeryson was named for Paul Emery, whose father George had built racing specials before the war. The family went on to build 500cc racing cars, and Paul built his own Formula One special, which he fitted with an Alta engine. He drove it himself at the 1956 British Grand Prix, his only World Championship start, and retired early.

In 1960 Emery joined Alan Brown to build Formula Junior cars and a new Climax powered Formula One car. Ecurie Nationale Belge bought three of them, and American heir Hugh Powell later bought the company to run Tony Settember, who finished eleventh at the 1962 British Grand Prix. By the end of that year the cars had been reworked into the new Scirocco marque. Emeryson cars started 4 Grands Prix in all.
