The 1993 season

A Fourth Title, Then Goodbye

Alain Prost returned from a year away to win a fourth title in a Williams packed with electronics, while Ayrton Senna won five times for McLaren.

The Williams FW15C was a rolling catalog of electronics. It had active suspension, traction control, power steering, anti lock brakes and a semi automatic gearbox, in a year when almost the whole grid used active suspension of some kind, and many of those systems were outlawed for 1994. Alain Prost, returning after a season away, was given the car. Nigel Mansell, the reigning champion, left for IndyCar racing rather than stay on as his teammate, and Damon Hill filled the second seat.
