The 1979 season

Scheckter's Steady Hand at Ferrari

Ligier, Renault and Williams each had their spell at the front, but Jody Scheckter and Ferrari turned consistency into both championships.

Imitation, in Formula One, is the sincerest form of engineering. The Lotus 79 had shown the way in 1978, and almost every team arrived in 1979 with a ground effect car of its own, which meant the front of the field kept changing hands. The season ran over fifteen rounds, from Buenos Aires on January 21 to Watkins Glen on October 7, and four different constructors won races.
