The 1960 season

Brabham Repeats as the Front Engine Fades

Jack Brabham and Cooper won five races in a row to retain both titles in the final season of the 2.5 liter formula.

The 1960 season was a year of last times. The 2.5 liter formula ran for the final time, and so did the Indianapolis 500 as a championship round. Rear engined cars from Cooper and Lotus set the pace, while Ferrari, Scarab and Aston Martin still put the engine ahead of the driver, an arrangement that was starting to look more like tradition than engineering.
