Ron Tauranac designed the cars and Jack Brabham drove them. In 1962 the two Australians set up Brabham as both car builder and racing team, and Tauranac's BT19 chassis carried Brabham to the 1966 title with a Repco engine. When his partner retired at the end of 1970, Tauranac took over as owner and manager, until he sold the team to Bernie Ecclestone.

He then helped Frank Williams redesign a Politoys chassis and worked on a Formula One car for Trojan before reviving Ralt, a badge he had shared with his brother Austin on homemade Australian specials in the 1950s. Ralt cars went on to win European Formula Three titles and five British Formula Three crowns in a row. He died on the 17th of July 2020, aged 95.
