British team manager who ran Team Lotus across two spells and guided Walter Wolf Racing through its fine first season

Peter Warr was born in Kermanshah, Iran, served as a Guards officer after Sandhurst, and joined Lotus in 1958 to sell cars. He also raced the very models he sold, and in 1963 won the first Japanese Grand Prix in a Lotus 23. Few salesmen have offered a better demonstration.

Colin Chapman made him competitions manager of Team Lotus in late 1969, and he helped steer Jochen Rindt and Emerson Fittipaldi to their titles in 1970 and 1972. He moved to Walter Wolf's new team for 1977, a season in which Jody Scheckter took three wins, and returned to Lotus in 1981. There he secured Honda turbo engines for 1987, with Satoru Nakajima joining Ayrton Senna, and stayed until midway through 1989. He died on the 4th of October 2010.
