Jean Todt learned motorsport from the passenger seat. Born in Pierrefort in 1946, he spent 15 years as a rally co navigator and won the 1981 manufacturers' world title with Talbot. As head of Peugeot Talbot Sport he then collected rally championships, four Paris Dakar wins and two victories at Le Mans.

He started at Ferrari on the 1st of July 1993, at the French Grand Prix, in charge of 400 technicians and a team that had not won a drivers' title since 1979. Gerhard Berger won in Germany the next summer, and then the floodgates opened: 13 world titles under Todt, including five in a row for Michael Schumacher from 2000 to 2004. He went on to serve as president of the FIA from 2009 to 2021.
