Irish bank clerk turned team owner who founded Jordan Grand Prix and ran it from 1991 to 2005

Eddie Jordan was a clerk at the Bank of Ireland when a banking strike in 1970 sent him to Jersey for the summer, where he discovered kart racing. He won the Irish karting championship, raced through Formula Ford, Formula Three and Formula Atlantic, and took the Irish Formula Atlantic title in 1978.

He founded Eddie Jordan Racing in 1979 and in 1991 took Jordan Grand Prix into Formula One. Over 15 seasons the team won four Grands Prix and finished third in the 1999 constructors' championship, a fine return for a team that never had a manufacturer's budget. Midland bought it from him at the close of 2005 and became a television analyst with the BBC and later Channel 4. He died on the 20th of March 2025.
