Bobby Rahal

American CART champion and Indianapolis 500 winner who held a senior management role at Jaguar Racing

Bobby Rahal was runner up to Gilles Villeneuve in Formula Atlantic in 1977 and started two Grands Prix for Wolf at the end of 1978. His great success came in American open wheel racing: three CART titles, 24 race wins and victory at the 1986 Indianapolis 500. In 1992 he won the championship as an owner driver, the last man to do so.

In 2000 he took a senior management post with Ford's Jaguar team and tried to sign the designer Adrian Newey, who later joined the team after it became Red Bull. As an owner he won the Indianapolis 500 again with Buddy Rice in 2004 and Takuma Sato in 2020. He also served as the CART series' interim president. Driving, owning and administering: Rahal has seen racing from every desk.
