Northern Irish aerodynamicist and technical director of Renault's title cars who led the team in late 2009 and 2010

Bob Bell earned a doctorate in aeronautical engineering at Queen's University in Belfast and joined McLaren as an aerodynamicist in 1982. After spells at Benetton and Jordan he followed Mike Gascoyne to Renault, becoming technical director at Enstone in 2003.

The R25 and R26 built under his direction took both titles in 2005 and 2006. On the 23rd of September 2009 he was asked to lead the team on an acting basis until the season ended, and in 2010 he served as the team's managing director before leaving that October. He returned as chief technical officer when Renault rebuilt its works team in 2016, and in March 2024 joined Aston Martin as executive director, technical. Aerodynamicists are not supposed to run teams, but the paperwork is mostly about flow too.
