Rudi Fischer

Swiss racing driver

Second in Bern with Écurie Espadon

Rudi Fischer, leader of the Swiss amateur team Écurie Espadon, raced in seven Grands Prix in 1951 and 1952 and finished on the podium twice.

Born in Stuttgart and racing for Switzerland, Rudi Fischer led Écurie Espadon, a band of well heeled Swiss amateurs who raced for the love of it, and entered most of his races under its name. He made his World Championship debut at his home Swiss Grand Prix in 1951, and he also took part in many non championship Formula One and Formula Two events.

His best season was 1952. Driving a Ferrari, he finished second at the Swiss Grand Prix in Bern behind Piero Taruffi, and later that year he finished third at the German Grand Prix. His last championship race was the 1952 Italian Grand Prix, which brought his total to seven starts and two podiums. He died in 1976.
