Robert Kubica

Polish racing and rally driver

Robert Kubica's win and long road back

Robert Kubica won the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix for BMW Sauber, returned to Formula 1 eight years after a rally crash, and later won Le Mans.

Robert Kubica was born in Kraków, Poland, on 7 December 1984, and remains the only Polish driver to have raced in Formula 1. He won the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2005, joined BMW Sauber, and was promoted to a race seat partway through 2006, making his debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix that August. In only his third race he finished third at Monza.

The 2008 season was his finest. He took pole position in Bahrain, then won the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, the only victory for the team. He led the championship briefly and finished fourth overall, the best result of his career, after seven podiums. A winless 2009 followed before he moved to Renault for 2010, scoring three more podiums.

In February 2011, before the new season began, he was seriously injured in a crash at the Ronde di Andora rally in Italy, and he did not race in Formula 1 again for eight years. He rebuilt his career in rallying, winning the inaugural WRC 2 title in 2013 and competing in the World Rally Championship, and then returned to the Formula 1 grid with Williams in 2019, scoring the team's only point of the season. In 2021 he stood in for Kimi Räikkönen at Alfa Romeo in the Dutch and Italian Grands Prix.

His Formula 1 record shows 99 starts, 1 win, 1 pole position, 1 fastest lap and 12 podiums. In endurance racing he won LMP2 titles in the European Le Mans Series and the World Endurance Championship, and in 2025 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans outright for AF Corse in a Ferrari 499P.

0 world titles, 1 wins, 1 pole positions, 99 starts.
