Two Seconds for Frank Williams

Piers Courage finished second twice in 1969 in a Brabham entered by Frank Williams, and was killed at Zandvoort in 1970.

Born in Colchester, Piers Courage raced in European Formula 3 from 1964 and first appeared in a World Championship event in a Lotus at the 1966 German Grand Prix. BRM signed him for 1967, and in 1968 he scored points with sixth in France and fourth in Italy.

In 1969 he drove a Brabham entered by Frank Williams and finished second at Monaco and at the United States Grand Prix, with fifth places in Britain and Italy. Williams moved to De Tomaso chassis for 1970, and at the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort Courage crashed and his car caught fire. He was killed, having made 28 starts.
