Fifth in Dallas for Osella

Piercarlo Ghinzani entered more than a hundred Grands Prix between 1981 and 1989, scoring his only points with fifth place in Dallas in 1984.

Born in Riviera d'Adda, Piercarlo Ghinzani won the European Formula Three championship in 1977 and made his Formula One debut for Osella at the 1981 Belgian Grand Prix, standing in for an injured driver. Most of his career was spent with the small Italian team, often fighting simply to qualify.

His one points finish came at the 1984 Dallas Grand Prix, where he started eighteenth and finished fifth. He also raced for Toleman in 1985, Ligier in 1987 and Zakspeed in 1988 before a final season back at Osella, ending at the 1989 Australian Grand Prix. His 109 entries produced 74 starts. He later founded Team Ghinzani, which ran Italy's A1 Grand Prix entry and Formula Three cars.
