Third in France in 1950

Peter Whitehead raced in the first World Championship seasons, finishing third at the 1950 French Grand Prix in his own Ferrari, and won Le Mans in 1951.

Born in Yorkshire, Peter Whitehead began racing in 1935 and won the 1938 Australian Grand Prix. When the World Championship began he raced a Ferrari, and at the 1950 French Grand Prix he finished third after starting eighteenth.

He continued in Ferraris in 1951 and later in Alta and Cooper cars, often as a private entrant, with his last championship race being the 1954 British Grand Prix, his tenth start. He was strongest in sports cars, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951. He was killed in 1958 during the Tour de France endurance event.
