Paul Goldsmith succeeded on two wheels and four, and finished third in the 1960 Indianapolis 500 from twenty sixth on the grid.

Born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Paul Goldsmith first made his name on motorcycles, winning the Daytona 200 for Harley Davidson in 1953. In 1958 he won the last NASCAR race on the Daytona Beach road course, and the same year he started his first Indianapolis 500, then a round of the World Championship.

He finished fifth at Indianapolis in 1959, and in 1960 he drove from twenty sixth on the grid to third, the only championship podium of his three starts. He went on to win the USAC Stock Car title in 1961 and 1962. When he died in 2024 he was the oldest living driver to have competed in the World Championship.
