Manny Ayulo

American racecar driver

Roadster Pioneer at Indianapolis

Manny Ayulo started four Indianapolis 500s in the World Championship era and shared the third placed car with Jack McGrath in 1951.

Born in Los Angeles, Manny Ayulo worked alongside his friend and teammate Jack McGrath to prove that track roadsters could be serious racing cars. He made his first Indianapolis 500 start in 1951, when the race was a round of the World Championship.

That year he shared McGrath's car, which finished third from third on the grid, giving him the only championship podium of his career. He started again in 1952, 1953 and 1954, for a total of four World Championship starts. During practice for the 1955 Indianapolis 500 his car crashed into a concrete wall, and he was killed.
