Third at Monaco, First at Le Mans

Lucien Bianchi raced in Formula One between 1959 and 1968, finishing third at Monaco in 1968, the same year he won Le Mans.

Born in Milan and raised in Belgium, Lucien Bianchi first entered a World Championship race at the 1959 Monaco Grand Prix and scored a point with sixth in Belgium in 1960. Through the early 1960s he drove occasionally for several teams, including Emeryson, Lotus, ENB, Lola and BRM.

His best Formula One season came with Cooper in 1968, when he finished third at the Monaco Grand Prix and sixth in Belgium. That year he also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Pedro Rodríguez. His last Grand Prix was the 1968 Mexican Grand Prix, his 17th start, and in March 1969 he was killed in a crash while testing for Le Mans.
