Louis Rosier

French racing driver

Le Mans Winner in the First Championship

Louis Rosier raced in the World Championship from its first season in 1950 until 1956, finishing third twice for Talbot in 1950.

Born in Chapdes Beaufort, Louis Rosier was already an established racer when the World Championship began, and he took part from its first round, the 1950 British Grand Prix. Driving a Talbot that season, he finished third in Switzerland and Belgium, and he also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with his son, still the only father and son victory there.

For much of his career he entered his own cars under the Écurie Rosier name, using Talbot, Ferrari and Maserati machinery, and he also drove for the works Maserati team. His last championship race was the 1956 German Grand Prix, his 39th start. In October 1956 he died from injuries suffered in a sports car race at Montlhéry.
