GP2 Champion at Renault

Jolyon Palmer, the 2014 GP2 champion, raced for Renault in 2016 and 2017 before moving into broadcasting.

Born in Horsham, Jolyon Palmer won the GP2 Series in 2014 and spent 2015 as a test driver for Lotus. When the team returned to Renault ownership he was promoted to a race seat, making his Formula One debut at the 2016 Australian Grand Prix.

His first point came with tenth at the 2016 Malaysian Grand Prix. He stayed with Renault for 2017, and sixth place at the Singapore Grand Prix that year was the best result of his career. Renault dropped him after the 2017 Japanese Grand Prix, his 35th start, and he went on to become a pundit and columnist for the BBC, Channel 4 and F1 TV.
