Second at Monza for Matra

Johnny Servoz Gavin raced in Formula One between 1967 and 1970 and finished second at the 1968 Italian Grand Prix in a Tyrrell run Matra.

Born in Grenoble, Johnny Servoz Gavin worked as a ski instructor in his youth before turning to racing. He made his World Championship debut with Matra at the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix and in 1968 drove for Ken Tyrrell's team, mainly alongside Jackie Stewart.

Standing in for Stewart at Monaco that year, he started from the front row and led early before his race ended against a barrier. At the 1968 Italian Grand Prix he finished second from thirteenth on the grid, his only podium. He scored again in Canada in 1969 and with fifth for March in Spain in 1970, and his final entry came at Monaco that year, after 12 starts. He died in 2006.
