John Love raced almost only at the South African Grand Prix between 1962 and 1972, and finished second in 1967 after leading.

Born in Bulawayo, John Love raced motorcycles before switching to cars, competed in European Formula Junior for Ken Tyrrell's team and won the 1962 British Saloon Car Championship. He made his World Championship debut at the 1962 South African Grand Prix.

Almost all of his championship outings came at that race. In 1967 he led at Kyalami in his Cooper before stopping for extra fuel and finished second, his only podium. He won the South African Formula One Championship six times in a row from 1964 to 1969 and kept racing at his national Grand Prix until 1972, finishing with nine starts. He died in 2005.
