Jimmy Davies

American racing driver

Midget Champion with an Indianapolis Podium

Jimmy Davies started six Indianapolis 500s in the World Championship era, finishing third in 1955, and won three national midget titles.

Born in Glendale, California, Jimmy Davies became a winner young: in 1949 he took a 100 mile AAA championship race at Del Mar, at the time the youngest driver to win in a major American open wheel series. He started his first Indianapolis 500, then part of the World Championship, in 1950.

He raced at Indianapolis each year through 1955, when he finished third from tenth on the grid, the only championship podium of his career and his sixth start. Midget racing remained his speciality, and he won the USAC National Midget Championship in 1960, 1961 and 1962, with 46 feature wins in all. He died in 1966 after a midget crash near Chicago.
