Nine Podiums Without a Championship Win

Jean Behra raced in the World Championship from 1951 to 1959, finishing on the podium nine times for Gordini, Maserati and BRM.

Born in Nice, Jean Behra raced motorcycles for Moto Guzzi before switching to cars, and Gordini entered him in the 1951 Italian Grand Prix. With the French team he finished third at the 1952 Swiss Grand Prix.

Maserati signed him for 1955, and his best season came in 1956 with second in Argentina and third places at Monaco, in France, Britain and Germany. He added second in Argentina in 1957 and third at the 1958 Dutch Grand Prix for BRM. He joined Ferrari for 1959 and finished fifth at Zandvoort before leaving the team that summer. On the 1st of August 1959 he was killed in a sports car race at AVUS, held alongside the German Grand Prix, having made 58 championship starts.
