Jaime Alguersuari

Spanish racing driver

The Teenager at Toro Rosso

Jaime Alguersuari raced for Toro Rosso from 2009 to 2011, starting his first Grand Prix at 19.

Born in Barcelona, Jaime Alguersuari won the British Formula 3 International Series in 2008. Toro Rosso brought him into Formula One in the middle of the following season, and at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix he became the youngest driver to start a Grand Prix at that time, aged 19.

Points arrived in 2010, and 2011 was his strongest year, with seventh places at the Italian and Korean Grands Prix and several eighths. He lost his seat after the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix, his 46th start, all of them with Toro Rosso. He then worked as an expert summariser on BBC Radio 5 Live and later retired from racing to pursue music.
