Howden Ganley raced in Formula One from 1971 to 1974, scoring points five times with a best finish of fourth.

Born in Hamilton, New Zealand, Howden Ganley was inspired to race after watching the 1955 New Zealand Grand Prix and finished second in the 1970 European Formula 5000 Championship. BRM gave him his Formula One debut at the 1971 South African Grand Prix, and that year he finished fifth in Italy and fourth at the United States Grand Prix.

He stayed with BRM in 1972, taking fourth in Germany and sixth in Austria, then drove for Iso Marlboro in 1973, scoring a point in Canada. Outings with March and the Maki team in 1974 closed his championship career at the German Grand Prix, after 35 starts from 41 entries.
