Mexican Privateer Who Built His Own Car

Héctor Rebaque raced in Formula One from 1977 to 1981, ran his own team and scored his best results with Brabham.

Born in Mexico City, Héctor Rebaque made his first Formula One appearance with Hesketh in 1977, qualifying only once. In 1978 he founded his own team, entering a privately run Lotus, and scored his first point with sixth at the German Grand Prix. Late in 1979 the team built its own car, the Rebaque HR100, developed with Penske.

Brabham signed him partway through 1980, and in 1981 he finished fourth at San Marino, Germany and the Netherlands, the best results of his career. His last Grand Prix was the 1981 Caesars Palace Grand Prix, after 41 starts from 59 entries. He then moved to CART and won at Road America in 1982 before retiring and turning to business.
