Brabham Podiums and Endurance Fame

Hans Joachim Stuck raced in Formula One from 1974 to 1979, finishing third twice for Brabham in 1977, and became a sports car great.

Born in Grainau in Bavaria, Hans Joachim Stuck learned his craft at the Nürburgring and won its 24 hour race in 1970 at 19. March gave him his Formula One debut at the 1974 Argentine Grand Prix, and he finished fourth in Spain that year.

After three seasons with March he moved to Brabham partway through 1977 and took third place in both Germany and Austria. Seasons with Shadow and ATS followed, and his last Grand Prix was the 1979 United States Grand Prix, after 74 starts. His greater success came in sports cars and touring cars: he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1986 and 1987 with Porsche, the 1985 World Endurance title and the 1990 German touring car championship.
