The Last Privateer

Bob Anderson, a former motorcycle racer, ran his own Formula One cars from 1963 to 1967 and finished third in Austria in 1964.

Born in Hendon, Bob Anderson raced motorcycles in the Grand Prix world championship from 1958 to 1960 and won the North West 200 twice. He entered Formula One in 1963 with his own Lola under the DW Racing Enterprises name, making his debut at the British Grand Prix.

Switching to a Brabham for 1964, he finished sixth in the Netherlands and third at the Austrian Grand Prix, the only podium of his career. He kept racing his privately run car through 1967, with fifth at that year's South African Grand Prix, and his last start came at the 1967 British Grand Prix, his 25th. Weeks later he was killed in a testing accident at Silverstone.
